Mike Corbin

Born and raised in the Midwest, Mike Corbin graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BFA in 1976 after a four-year stint in the U.S. Coast Guard. The same year he graduated he and his young family moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Funded in part by grants in 1995 and 1996, Mike began documenting the peach industry in South Carolina and one family farm located near Cowpens, in particular. The project produced an exhibit that first opened in Spartanburg and would travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, Oxford, Mississippi and Washington, D.C. and evolve into a book, Family Trees  published in 1998 by the Hub City Writers Project.

Beginning in 1999 with the Gibbs Cancer Center in the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, Corbin has created several permanent corporate collections of photography documenting the Piedmont region of South Carolina and neighboring North Carolina. He is currently the photographer and graphic artist for Spartanburg Day School and is working to complete another collection of photographs of the region for a new hospital facility in Greer, South Carolina.
